A practical transition

Electrification works best as a whole-home project.

Electrification means replacing—or partially replacing—equipment that burns natural gas, oil, or propane with efficient electric technology. It is not simply an equipment swap.

The best plan considers heat loss, insulation, air leakage, ductwork, ventilation, electrical capacity, equipment sizing, and the way each system affects the rest of your home. EcoPower begins with the data, then builds a prioritized path around your needs.

01 / REDUCE LOAD

Seal and insulate

Address avoidable energy loss so new equipment can perform efficiently.

02 / RIGHT-SIZE

Use audit data

Plan around the home’s actual heating, cooling, and hot-water needs.

03 / PREPARE

Check readiness

Review panels, circuits, controls, ductwork, and installation conditions.

04 / VERIFY

Test the result

Commission equipment and complete required program documentation.

Your electrification options

Upgrade the systems that use the most energy.

EcoPower can help coordinate qualifying improvements as one integrated scope or as a phased plan timed around equipment replacement.

Heat-pump heating & cooling

High-efficiency air-source heat pumps provide heating and cooling in one system. Options may include central, ducted, ductless, or hybrid configurations.

Heat-pump water heating

Move heat instead of creating it directly. We assess location, clearances, condensate, airflow, electrical needs, and household demand.

Electrical readiness

Plan panel, circuit, wiring, control, and other supporting improvements connected to qualifying electric equipment.

Building-envelope improvements

Pair equipment with insulation, air sealing, duct sealing, and ventilation measures identified by the audit.

BGE Home Performance

Electrification may unlock additional rebate value.

Eligible BGE customers who pair qualifying electrification measures with air sealing and insulation may be able to access enhanced Home Performance incentives.

Up to
$15,000

or up to 75% of qualifying project cost when eligible electrification measures are included.

Rebates depend on modeled energy savings, eligible measures, project cost, utility account status, installation requirements, available funding, and current BGE program rules. Maximums are not guaranteed.

Common questions

Electrification, explained.

Do I need to electrify my entire home at once?

No. A plan may be full, partial, or phased. Many homeowners begin with an audit, improve the envelope, and time equipment changes around condition, budget, comfort needs, and incentive eligibility.

Why start with an energy audit?

An audit reveals air leakage, insulation gaps, duct conditions, safety concerns, and the home’s energy profile. That information helps create a better scope and supports BGE-approved energy modeling when pursuing Home Performance rebates.

Will a heat pump keep my home comfortable in winter?

Modern heat pumps are designed for year-round heating and cooling. The right answer depends on equipment selection, design temperature, sizing, the building envelope, ductwork, and whether a full-electric or hybrid approach best fits the home.

Are incentives guaranteed?

No. Eligibility and amounts depend on the customer account, property, selected measures, modeled savings, project cost, installation requirements, available funding, and current program rules. EcoPower helps verify the applicable pathway before work proceeds.
